#memoirchat = Discussing memoir on Twitter

July 7, 2009

Writers of memoir, unite!

Let’s chat on Twitter about some of the specific challenges to writing memoir.

  • When: Wednesday, July 8, an hour-long chat starting at 8 p.m. EST. If there’s enough interest, we’ll consider making this weekly or bi-weekly.

    UPDATE: Now every other Wednesday.

About a dozen writers have expressed interest so far. Spread the word! Since #memoirchat is a more specific topic than, say, #writechat or #journchat, we’ll have a smaller, more manageable group. I’m hoping that will allow us to get to know each other a bit, share our projects and progress, as well as advice on anything from writing to publishing.

What sorts of topics would you like to discuss? Post your ideas below in comments.

UPDATE: The first #memoirchat was a success! If you missed it, check out the transcript.

I don’t write memoir, but I’ll try to check in just to see what’s going on.

Just to be sure I understand:
1. I log into Twitter
2. I find a twitter chat tool (where do I find this)?
3. I use #memoirchat to enter the conversation after each tweet.
sorry to be such a dunce

No worries. Use http://tweetchat.com. This adds the hashtag for you automatically and the entire conversation pops up.

Try it now for practice — When they ask which room you want to enter, say memoirchat. Then you’ll see all the #memoirchat tweets from today.

Let me know if you have more questions!

I am writing memoirs -
50 years of unedited first drafts and journals

how do you decide what goes in the first book
and how much do you reveal

is it okay to mix journaling and writing
can you make it more creative by mixing

adding photos to memoirs

also, how many pages

is what we release on twitter considered published i mean would an editor like you releasing your words on twitter

i also have heard recently that an agent or editor would like it if we have websites and pr already – is that true in your opinion

thanks

Great idea! I probably won’t be able to make it to this one since I am C-R-A-Z-Y busy right now, but I hope to join in in the future!
