Writers’ Roundup: July 29

July 29, 2011

Happy Friday! I love being the first to wish you that on Friday mornings.

Big thanks to those of you who bought the Thesis theme for WordPress through my affiliate link (which is always at the bottom right of my blog if you realize down the road that this is the theme for you). You’re turning me into a fan of affiliate programs.

Links from this week that I think you’ll enjoy:

  • Soon-to-be author Hope Clark says when you give your writing away, you reduce it to a hobby. I’ve got a lot to say about whether you should write for free, but I’ll save that for a blog post.

Wishing you a relaxing weekend!

    • Another great roundup! I especially appreciate the short-but-sweet article on building in margin time. I have just gotten to the point where I really and truly need to improve my time management skills, because the more efficiently I can work, the better I can handle the competing demands of writing, proofreading, and blogging while continuing at my day job of teaching. I tried to plan out a week in advance a couple of times, but it didn’t work that well for me because I was too ambitious with my daily goals and got totally overwhelmed by how quickly I fell behind. Now I’m trying to see how it works with setting regular office hours for myself, 8 am to 5 pm, and being disciplined about not surfing the web aimlessly. It’s been working pretty well (this is week one, though), and maybe I’ll give the weekly planning another try using Laura Vanderkam’s method.

      Thanks again, Alexis!

I always find something helpful to click on in your roundup. Today I clicked on Jody Hedlund’s link, and thanks to the article, just created a profile on Amazon’s Author Central. Thank you!
