What Are You Working On That You’re Excited About?

April 9, 2012

Do you ever have a day where you’re SO EXCITED to work on your projects that you can’t focus on anything else?

I’ve been having a lot of those days lately.

excited

I’m excited about:

  • My next ebook about how to create a freakin’ awesome social media strategy
  • Continuing to build this blog community

Part of the reason I love this community is because YOU all are idea people, too.

So today, I’d love for you to tell us: What are YOU working on that you’re excited about?

Feel free to leave a link, too!

      Hi, Alexis!
You have a LOT to be excited about. Those are ambitious and energizing projects!
I am excited about being halfway through my memoir about my parents and growing up with them on Chicago’s west side. It’s working title is “If We Won’t be Happy, Who Will? It’s a memoir of one couples great love, bolstered by humor and commitment; buffeted by distance, madness, riots, tragedy. I’ve posted my mom’s vivid and passionate diary entries of falling for Dad at my Family Archaeologist blog (Starting with “Falling in Love 70 Years Ago”). The blog works a bit like a serial reality show, each post a mini-story based on actual letters and diaries and ending with a cliff hanger for what comes next. I’m also excited about starting up a new website and perhaps a second blog. The rest of April I’ve entered my own personal ‘Writing marathon” to finish the first draft of the book.

    • Glad to hear that you have a lot of projects to be excited about! I’m currently querying for my Hong Kong travel memoir, which I know is likely to be a long process. In the mean time, I’ve decided to release an e-book of a cool travel story I have to tell that wouldn’t be long enough for a regular book. I’ve been reading a lot about self-publishing lately, and I’m excited to try it out and see if it will help build an audience for a traditionally published book.

Hey Shannon — I think you mentioned this in the travel memoir writers group on Facebook, right? Sounds like a great book! Look forward to hearing more about your querying experience.

    • You are one busy lady, Lexi!

I’m really excited about a new picture book manuscript I’m working on inspired by some recent nature experiences. I haven’t formulated my approach- still playing around with ideas-but I’m highly motivated and feel like I’m onto something good.
I blogged about my experiences here:

    • This post is extremely relevant because I just left a meeting about me taking on the social media for http://www.hipcalendar.com! It’s a global calendar aimed to keep everyone on the loop about what’s going on no matter if they’re in their home city or traveling. It’s awesome (and pretty too!). I’m SO STOKED about this project 🙂

Right now I am excited to be learning Screenflow to create my first online video. It can be a little frustrating as I am not technically minded but it does excite me that I am learning a new skill.

It’s been 3 years in the making, but I’m still excited about working on my manuscript, even though it’s been written and revised several times now and schoolwork keeps getting in the way halfway through each revision. But hey, that doesn’t slow me down!

I’m excited about the opportunity to take an unexpected Leap!

Alexis, I love following your blog. The range of work you do inspires me so much. I love that a post about not getting into a writing colony is followed by a post of all the things you’re excited about working on, which is followed by a post (the next one) with actionable advice for your readers. You are so great!

I’m going through a period of big transitions right now, and I am EXCITED! Trying to figure out my business plan, leaving my day job soon, working on kick-starting my book plan, moving… life is exciting, life is scary, but life is GOOD! 🙂

I’m excited about writing. Simple pleasure. After many years of missteps and false starts, I’ve finally got into the groove of daily blogging and it brings me huge satisfaction and wonderful connections.

I’m very much a ‘what’s next’ person. As soon as one project is completed, I’m instantly on to planning the next one. Right now, I’m appreciating the slow and steady of one step at a time. The simple pleasure of writing.
