If I Could Only [Fill in the Blank], Then I’d Be Happy

July 9, 2012

Today I’m flying home from the World Domination Summit! What an awesome weekend. Can’t wait to share a few big takeaways over the next few weeks.

For now, though, let’s talk about something important. Something that affects us ALL in one way or another.

striving to be happy

"I can almost reach it..."

Do you ever find yourself saying phrases like…

“If only I could find a job I liked, then I’d be happy.”

“If only I could lose 10 pounds, then I’d be happy.”

“If only I could meet that special someone, then I’d be happy.”

That would be fine, if those things actually happened and we actually became content when they did.

But usually what happens instead is one of these two things:

1. We never make that goal a true priority, so we never reach it.

2. If we do reach that goal, we’re still not happy.

That means we’re never truly content. It means we’re always WAITING for the day when we’re truly happy, when we can finally live the life we want.

But guess what?

This IS your life.

Right now, at this very moment.

This is it.

So next time you find yourself saying, “I’ll be happy when…” take action in one (or both) of these two ways:

1. Determine what you can do RIGHT NOW to reach that goal, so you can achieve that happy place — and DO IT.

2. Figure out how you can be happy RIGHT NOW without reaching that (perhaps unrealistic) goal.

Because unless YOU take action, tomorrow won’t be any different. You will face the same challenges, the same obstacles, the same BUTs. Those BUTs will determine your life path, will keep you from getting where you want to be until you move them.

So how can you be happy today?
