While working on my travel memoir this weekend, I wrote this paragraph:
He softly kissed the corner of my mouth, then my jawline, then inched toward my ear, where he began whispering sweet nothings. At least, I assumed they were sweet nothings – his French words weren’t clear enough for me to understand.
Then I thought to myself: Oh my God, my parents are going to read this!
Mom and Dad, don’t be surprised if your copy includes entire paragraphs of blacked-out text.
Well, that particular part wasn’t terribly racy, but I assume he keeps moving and does less talking.
I love the idea of sending your parents a book with blacked out passages. I think you should do it. Black out parts that aren’t even racy. They’ll be happy when you send them a good copy and they read and realize it wasn’t as “bad” as the first blacked-out copy led them to believe.

Thanks, Helen!
When writing about my own life, anything in this realm seems racy. Scary territory!
Oh, too funny! I feel the same way. Tear out whole pages of your book, if necessary.

I am way way way older than you and still felt uncomfortable with my parents reading the sex scene in my book. I had sent out such warnings that when my mother read the scene she almost seemed disappointed and said, “That wasn’t so bad. I was expecting more.” I had to laugh!

Hahahahaaaa! Now, now, calm down. I’m sure Mommy and Daddy know their little girl has been kissed EVER so sexily before, and more than once. (wink)
I’ve often wondered – this is WAY more over the top than your situation, of course – but those girls who do the porno mag spreads (pun intended) and those live sex movies … could they possibly have parents still alive?

Oh, I also meant to say “kudos” for keeping up with the blog posting even the day after the PPD challenge is over. Way to go, Alexis – you got some momentum going, keep it building. I’ve got classmates from back last year when I took the challenge who just let go after the challenge was over, and their blogs – not all, many went on to attain great heights, Helen Ginger among the more notable – many of those bloggers dwindled into oblivion.
Long winded congrats here, but hey – I’m a writer. 🙂

I think it would be different if I were writing memoir, but I guess I figure they’re adults.
LOL!
A “G-Rated” version for the folks…clever!

A travel book with steamy scenes! I must bow to you. I think you should consider writing romance in future too. You must have a lot of amazing experience (locationwise, not sure about romance wise, LOL)

Enid… This steamy doesn’t even COMPARE to your steamy 🙂
What a hoot!
Too funny! My mom, at 88, told me she sure was glad I didn’t put any sex in my mystery because she’d be too embarrassed to read it. My mother-in-law, 94 at the time, said she thought my next book would be a lot better if I added a lot of sex. It must be the mom/dad thing. LOL
