Looking for ways to increase traffic to your blog?
If there’s one thing I’ve learned from blogging during the last few years, it’s this: The number of hits I get on my site corresponds directly with how often I post. When I post a lot, I get a lot of hits. When I slack off for a few days, my traffic decreases.
Which is why, even though I’m struggling to keep up with my inofficial blogging schedule while working a full-time job and keeping my Socialexis clients happy, I’m determined to continue posting regularly. Because I know it works. You’re more likely to come visit when you know I post often.
If you’re looking to get more traffic to your site, set this goal for yourself: try to post just one more day each week. If you post once a week, increase to twice a week. If you post twice a week, aim for three posts. See if that makes a difference. (And let us know if it does.)
And while you’re at it, while you’re working hard to juggle three or four or five balls at once, exert just a tiny bit of effort on making sure that you bring a matching pair of shoes to work. Because otherwise you’ll end up, in your third week at the office, unlacing your walk-to-work sneakers only to find yourself with a black flat and a black heel.
Great advice – and a laugh at the end! It does always help to have matching shoes…
Awesome about the shoes! Transitioning back into the world of needing to have matching dress shoes must be awkward at times. How’s it going?
It’s good, thanks! After working at home (and not liking it), I now appreciate a lot more about office culture. Wearing heels though? Not so much.
LOL about the shoes, Alexis. I actually wore two different shoes to work not long after I’d started a new job. I got dressed in the dark in an effort not to wake my hubby on a day he didn’t need to go in so early.
I just couldn’t wear those shoes all day, so I drove the ten miles back home to get the correct pair on my feet.
Luckily I spend most of my day in my office with my feet under the desk. So I just wore my sneakers 🙂
oops – really? LOL about the shoes. How are you enjoying your job, Alexis? And how’s the memoir coming along?

Loving the job. I’ve got a nice break from the memoir at the moment while it’s in my agent’s hands!
You are so right. I notice a direct correlation between how often I post and how many hits my blog gets. I try to post three to four times a week, as that seems to be my magic number right now. But if I post less often, I always see a drop in readership, and it can take a few weeks to get back up there. Oh, and the shoe thing. Totally made me laugh! I’ve done something very similar – where I got to work and realized I forgot my dress shoes altogether – and then had to wear grubby tennies all day with my slacks. It’s lovely, isn’t it? 🙂
wahah! next time post a picture of that fashion moment, please. 😉
Sometimes I feel though if I post a lot my readers get overwhelmed… I’m so torn on this!
I agree with you on this. The fun builds up when you post often.
I definitely agree that posting more often keeps readers engaged (there’s only one blog that I follow regularly, and it’s because she posts 1-3 times PER DAY!), but what about when you’re still new and don’t have any/many readers yet? I’m posting daily, but traffic just isn’t close to significant yet…

@LLE — Keep at it! By posting daily, you’re growing that readership. It will pay off!
